Take Responsibilty.
By Dr. Wale Akinyemi.
When I was a kid, one place I always looked forward to going was my maternal grandparents’ house. My Grandfather was a bishop of the Anglican Church and was an extremely learned man with a Masters degree. He had a very impressive library with books that cut across different subjects. I would sit with him and we would have very deep discussions about issues. My topic for today however is not about the knowledge I got from him or the pride I derived from the fact that this amazing intelligent and handsome septuagenarian was my grandfather. Today I want to talk about his garden and the lesson I learnt from it.
He loved nature and had one of the most beautiful gardens I had seen at that time. He had different varieties of roses, jasmines and many exotic plants. At night the air was filled with the beautiful scent of the Queen of the night. Anyone who saw the garden knew that the owner had a very special taste in flowers and also that a lot of money had gone into making it look like it did. There was however one problem. There was no fence or wall. As such, goats seemed to also appreciate the taste of the flowers and I guess for them it was a special delicacy. They always found a way into the garden and then I would hear my grandmother shout, “Wale, those goats are here again o… go and chase them away.” I actually enjoyed chasing the goats and it was one of the special attractions and incentives for going to stay with my grandparents. However I often wondered if there was no better and more efficient way to deal with the goats? Of course there was and my grandparents apparently discovered it too. They built a fence around the house and once they did that the menace of goats stopped.
While the goats were having a field time with exotic cuisine in form of my grandfathers’ flowers, could he really blame them for what they were doing? The answer is no. By his not protecting his garden, he had given them permission to do whatever they wanted to do with his flowers.
Many people today like my grandfather are victims of their permissions. They will blame their work for their unhappiness. They will blame other people. They will blame the government. They will blame everyone but themselves. The truth however is that no event or condition can do to us more than we permit it to do. Whatever we may blame for mediocrity today, we should remember that we are not the first people to go through such and we will not be the last. Others have gone through and come out smelling like roses. The difference is in the permission we give.
We complain about people messing us up and taking advantage of us? Remember that no one can make you feel inferior without your consent. No one can walk on the back of someone who is standing upright and no one can step on the toes of someone who is in motion. Our actions give permission and if we have given permission then we should never complain about what we permit.
Many complain about their present circumstances but they do not realize that complaining about the present with no vision for the future is like having a headache and hoping that your neighbor will take pain killers on your behalf. Take responsibility. Excuses create the environment where negative permissions thrive. When you find excuses don’t pick them up. You will only create permission for more mediocrity. One of the greatest permissions that people give is the permission of comfort. Many are in fact prisoners of their comfort.
The next level of your life will never be found in the place of your present comfort. If your vision of tomorrow is not greater than your comfort of today, you will forever be a prisoner of your today. Stop permitting stagnation and mediocrity in your life. You will never rise above the excuses you give for mediocrity. Your present comfort as an individual, as a company or even as a Nation was never meant to be a destination. It was merely a bus stop on the way to a greater destination.
Have a Great Day!

THE PENCIL STORY
The Pencil Maker took the pencil aside, just before putting him into the box.
"There are 5 things you need to know," he told the pencil, "Before I send you out into the world. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best pencil you can be."
"One: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in Someone's hand."
"Two: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but you'll need it to become a better pencil."
"Three: You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make."
"Four: The most important part of you will always be what's inside."
"And Five: On every surface you are used on, you must leave your mark. No matter what the condition, you must continue to write."
The pencil understood and promised to remember, and went into the box with purpose in its heart.
Now replacing the place of the pencil with you. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best person you can be.
One: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in God's hand. And allow other human beings to access you for the many gifts you possess.
Two: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, by going through various problems in life, but you'll need it to become a stronger person.
Three: You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make.
Four: The most important part of you will always be what's on the inside.

Is God Hungry?
Do you think God has hunger pains? At first glance this question has an obvious answer; no. God is not confined to a human body, he is spirit. He has no need for food. God is self-existent and does not need any outside source to assist him in sustaining life. However, though he is not physically dependant on food, there is a burning hunger in God that he actively seeks to satisfy.
As the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness God gave Moses specific instructions as to the sacrifices they were to offer. In Numbers Moses recorded the instructions given for the daily offerings. The Lord said to Moses, Give these instructions to the people of Israel: The offerings you present as special gifts are a pleasing aroma to me; they are my food. See to it that they are brought at the appointed times and offered according to my instructions. (Numbers 28:1-2 NLT)
God is hungry for our special gifts. He feeds from our daily offerings or sacrifices. The meal that satisfies the Father's hunger begins with a living sacrifice. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Roman church, And so dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice; the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. (Romans 12:1 NLT)
To give our bodies as a living sacrifice is to render them dead to sin and alive to God. It means to give up all of our rights and yield totally to the will of the Father. A living sacrifice has at its core the greatest of commandments: To love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, all the time.
Another course in the Father's meal is the sacrifices of a broken heart and contrite spirit. David wrote, The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart -- These, O God, you will not despise. (Psalms 51:17) A broken spirit is one that is burst open with repentance. The contrite heart has been crushed or crumbled, and in humility has collapsed to submit to the mastery of God. David also wrote, The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit. (Psalms 34:18) The prophet Isaiah records these words:
For thus says the High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. (Isaiah 57:15)
For all those things my hand has made, and all those things exist, says the Lord. But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at my word. (Isaiah 66:2)
God's hunger is not fully satisfied until he has smelled the aroma and tasted the delicacy of a sacrifice of praise. The writer of Hebrews wrote, Therefore by him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to his name. (Hebrews 13:15)
In my book The Ingredients of Worship I wrote, "Many people over the years have taught that a sacrifice of praise is praise that is given when the worshiper doesn't feel like praising. This definition totally misses the meaning of the scripture and places the focus of worship on the worshiper instead of the one receiving the worship. Worship doesn't depend on how the worshiper feels but on how great a God he is worshiping. Worship doesn't depend on the outward appearance of the worshiper or his circumstances, but on the greatness of the one who controls the circumstances and the work he has done on the inside of the worshiper."
A quick study of Numbers 28 reveals that the offerings that were acceptable to God were ones without spot or blemish. They were of the best of the flock. A sacrifice of praise is the best the worshiper has to offer. It is the "fresh" fruit of the lips; ripe for the picking; not fruit that is rotting on the ground. It is an offering of thanksgiving to God.
God told Moses to make sure the offerings were brought at the appointed times according to his instructions. The appointed time to offer our sacrifices is "continually." The writer of Hebrews agreed with David who wrote, I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. (Psalms 34:1) Another psalmist wrote, By you I have been upheld from birth; you are he who took me out of my mother's womb. My praise shall be continually of you. (Psalms 71:6) Psalm 119:44 and 117 read respectively, So shall I keep your law continually, forever and ever. Hold me up, and I shall be safe, and I shall observe your statutes continually.
Jesus offers us the instructions of how our sacrifices should be presented. First they must be presented with blood. Jesus himself became the sacrifice by which our sacrifices are made possible. Without the shedding of his blood it would be impossible for our sacrifices to satisfy the hunger of the Father. In Jesus' conversation with the woman at the well in Sychar he reveals the time and the ingredients of satisfying worship.
But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship him. God is Spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth. (John 4:23-24)
Do you know why he is seeking such people to worship him this way? He has a perpetual hunger for relationship with his children. God's food is our continual living sacrifices of a broken spirit, a contrite heart and a praise of thanksgiving offered in spirit and truth.
During a recent worship service a friend of mine had a vision. In the vision she saw the Lord sitting across a table from her; they were having a candlelight dinner. The Lord leaned forward and blew out the candle! She knew he was being amorous. He said, "I want to have more candlelight dinners with you." What kind of meals do you serve the Father? Would your offerings leave him starving? Set fire to your passion and burn. Be a sweet smelling aroma to the Father. He will not be able to resist coming to the table you prepare for him. You will even have him coming back for more.

The Curse of Infiriority!
In the battle between the lion and
the shark the terrain will determine the outcome. This means that if the shark
gets the lion in water, the lion will be a victim not because it is weak but
because it is in the wrong terrain. Similarly if the lion should get the shark
on dry land the shark will become a victim not because it is weak but because it
is in the wrong terrain. No individual was born to be weak. People however take
up an appearance of weakness when they are in the wrong terrain. As good a
player as Didier Drogba is if you put him in the goal post to become the keeper,
he will most probably appear to be weak even though it is the same game and the
same sport. Similarly If you put him on the basketball court, he will not shine
because that is not his terrain. He is not weak. His apparent weakness under
these conditions not inherent in him. It is terrain induced.
One of the biggest problems facing a lot of people today is the problem of identity. This problem expresses itself at individual levels at corporate levels and at national levels. No society can rise to a position of dominance by being a replica of another. Originality is one of the trademarks of greatness. Your greatness lies in your originality. Great Nations like Singapore rose to greatness by being authentic Singaporeans and not British Singaporeans. The Japanese and the Chinese also rose to their position by being authentic Japanese and Chinese and not French or American Japanese or Chinese. Think of great artists like Mozart or Handel. They became great through their originality. Some people read the map but remember that some people drew the map. In your thinking are you a map reader or a map drawer? Are you an original or a clone? Are you authentic or counterfeit?
Why is it very important to become authentic in our thinking? Until we have confidence in our ability to think up things that can change our world, we will continue to conform to whatever the world gives us and we will continue to seek approval. You need no approval to be great. The world is an open platform calling out to people everywhere to reach out and take the greatness that is theirs but unfortunately too many people are seeking for approval. That is where the difference lies – the approval seekers and the takers. You need no approval to develop your mind. You need no approval to think big. You need no approval to dream. You need no approval to wake up and achieve your dream. You need to approval to be different. Unfortunately a lot of people are more inclined to conform than to stand out. Conformity is a disease that makes you feel unworthy unless you look like someone else. Inferiority is a disease that causes you to measure yourself against others. It causes you to measure your looks against the looks of others. It causes you to look down on yourself by default. Inferiority is what causes people to believe that the grass is greener on the other side and refuse to plant their own grass. Inferiority causes the horse to see the zebra and wish for stripes. Inferiority causes the zebra to see the donkey and wish for someone to trust it with luggage on its back. Inferiority causes the donkey to see the horse and want to have a saddle and reins. Inferiority causes the light skinned person to want to tan and causes the dark skinned to want to tone. Inferiority causes the male to want to be female and the female to be male. Inferiority causes the African American to want to be African and causes the African to want to be African American. Inferiority is what causes you to despise your terrain and esteem the terrain of another.
Remember my opening statement that in the battle between the lion and the shark the terrain determines the outcome? Well that is the reason for the seeming weakness of so many people. They have despised their terrain and esteemed the terrain of another and as they such they take on an appearance of weakness. The first step in your journey to a great and fulfilled life is to be authentic. Have confidence in your thoughts. Have confidence in yourself. Have confidence in your ability to rise from your mistakes. Have confidence to define how you want to be defined by others. Remember that if you do not define how you want people to define you then you cannot fault anyone for defining you the way they want to define you. Have confidence to live your life and not the life of another. You were made an original, don’t die a photocopy.
Do have an original week!
Dr. Wale Akinyemi.

"One today is worth two tomorrows".

-Benjamin Franklin
Yesterday is history and tomorrow is merely a figment of your imagination. So if you think about it, today is the only day you’re truly alive. Here’s how to make it a good one:
- Get started a few minutes early and start with God.
- Work on something that’s meaningful to you.
- Complete an important piece of unfinished business.
- Spend time with positive, friendly people.
- Do something nice for someone else.
- Be present. Focus on where you are, what you’re doing and who you’re with right now.
- Do one thing at a time.
- Listen to your self-talk. When you hear negative thoughts, think about the positive side of things.
- Smile, even when there’s no pressing reason to do so.
- Unplug. Find time to socialise with others.
- Go somewhere new. See something new. Meet someone new.
- Do something that makes you laugh.
- Challenge your mind.
- Challenge your body. Exercise for 30 minutes.
- Let someone help you.
- Clear a little clutter by getting rid of something you don’t need.
- Be honest with yourself and those around you.
- Don’t compare yourself to others. Instead, let them inspire you.
- Spend a few minutes alone in silence, just meditating.
- Focus on solutions.
- Keep an open mind to new ideas and information.
- Handle important two-minute tasks immediately.
- Stay out of other people’s drama. And don’t needlessly create your own.
- Say, “Please,” “Thank you,” “I’m sorry” and “I love you,” when you should.
- Don’t try to please everyone. Just do what you know is right.
- Eat a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner.
- Savor the natural joy of simple pleasure.
- Do what is right always.
- Focus on all the things you already have, think about them and appreciate them.
- Get to sleep a little earlier tonight so you’re well rested for tomorrow.

This is the final part of my message on REFOCUS, preached last sunday...
To refocus our lives we must pursue a clear vision for our lives.
Here is how we should pursue our vision for 2013.
HABAKKUK 2:2-3
Then the LORD answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.
3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it;
Because it will surely come, It will not tarry”.
There are six characteristics of a focused vision.
1. A VISION MUST BE WRITTEN: ‘write the vision’ vs.2.
The process of writing down something you want to do helps you to be committed.
Writing allows your hand to transmit what your brain is thinking of.
I pray that God gives you the wisdom to set down a clear vision for the coming year.
2. A VISION MUST BE CLEAR: ‘make it plain on tablets’ vs.2.
Make it plain means break it down or simplify it.
To stay focused you must be able to clearly state the main thing that you want to focus on.
Ideally, you should be able to state your vision in one sentence. What is the ‘one thing’ that you’ve set before yourself for the coming year?
In addition, break your vision into actionable steps.
I pray that God helps you to develop a step by step plan for your vision.
3. A VISION MUST PRODUCE ACTION: ‘that he may run who reads it’ vs.2.
Your vision should inspire you. Your vision should drive you into action. If you don’t act on what you have set before you, it will only be a fantasy. God wants you to run for your vision.
Every day, in 2013, you must take a step that brings you closer to your vision for the year. Even if the steps are small, still take them. A vision must make you run.
I pray that you receive grace to run.
4. A VISION HAS A TIME FRAME: ‘the vision is yet for an appointed time’ vs.3.
Nothing just happens. Life is a process. God uses the process of time to bring your vision into maturity. Time is not your enemy. Time is your friend.
When you plant corn in the field, it has an appointed time of three months to reach maturity. Similarly your vision is like a seed sown. It will not mature immediately.
It will germinate, grow, bear fruit and finally get ripe. All of that takes time.
I pray that you will not miss the season of maturity for every vision seed you sow.
5. A VISION MUST LEAD TO A REALITY: ‘it will not lie’ vs.3. A vision is not a fantasy. Your vision must lead to real achievements. God does not want us to be deceived. He wants us to see our seeds as fruits.
Although a vision starts as an inspiration or an idea, it must end as a reality. Every step you take in line with your vision should be a step towards reality.
In the name of Jesus, I decree that your vision will not lie. You will see the fruit of the seed you have sown.
6. A vision requires patience: ‘though it tarries, wait for it’ vs.3.
The word, ‘wait’ here means, ‘to stand in expectation’. Don’t give up. Don’t yield to discouragement. When you fall, get up and move on. Stay on course. Push towards your goal.
People may give up on you but don’t give up on yourself.
There will be days of loneliness. There will be days of despair. There will be of frustration. Don't quit when storms arise against you.
Push through those days. Because beyond that, lies days of fulfillment; Days of favour; Days of significance. There a great days ahead of you.
If you peep moving, you will make progress.
I pray for you that your strength does not fail. Receive the anointing to start and to finish.
May the Lord help you keep your focus in 2013. THERE’S HOPE FOR THE FUTURE!!!

KUTOKA FOF EXTRAVAGANZAA~~JE UNAIJUA HERUFI YAKO?
Kuna game moja ambayo ilichezwa, japo haikua mara ya kwanza mimi kuiona ile Game, ila this time niliiona kwa jicho jingine.
4. Ilihitajika team-work ili kufanikisha zoezi zima.
Sasa basi, Kila mtu anakitu ambacho Mungu amempa mkononi, amini usamini KILA MTU ana kitu ambacho Mungu amempa.
Ilihitajika team work, ili kufanikisha lile zoezi.Biblia inasema Two are better than one..(Mhubiri 4:9), na umoja ni nguvu, ndio maana mwili una viungo vingi, na kila kiungo kina kazi yake.jicho haliwezi kuwa mguu, na kichwa kuwa mkono.Kila mmoja anamhitaji mwenzake ili kuendelea kuishi. Kadhalika vile vitu vyote ambavyo Mungu ameweka ndani yetu tukiviunganisha tunatengeneza kitu kimoja ambacho ndio ilikua kusudi la Mungu kumpa kila mmoja kitu.
Nawatakia weekend njema!
