SALAAM ZA MAASKOFU WA KKKT KWA WATANZANIA WOTE KUHUSIANA NA MATUKIO YA KUCHOMA MOTO MAKANISA YA KIKRISTO ENEO LA MBAGALA – DSM

Askofu Mkuu wa KKKT, Askofu Dk. Alex G. Malasusa(kushoto)

SALAAM ZA MAASKOFU WA KKKT KWA WATANZANIA WOTE KUHUSIANA NA MATUKIO YA KUCHOMA MOTO MAKANISA YA KIKRISTO ENEO LA MBAGALA – DSM.

Wapendwa Katika Bwana,

Daima tukumbuke kuwa, “KUSHINDANA KWETU SISI SI JUU YA DAMU NA NYAMA BALI NI JUU YA FALME NA MAMLAKA, JUU YA WAKUU WA GIZA HILI, JUU YA MAJESHI YA PEPO WABAYA KATIKA ULIMWENGU WA ROHO” (Waefeso 6: 12).

WHAT KIND OF HUSBAND ARE YOU?

How can your wife describe you? Below are few categories of husbands:

(1). Autocratic Husband- He is a self-knowledge, self-involved, unbending, unyielding husband. Nobody can correct him, nobody can counsel him. To him, he knows everything. He is very arrogant and stubborn. He has no mentor. He does not fear, honour or respect anybody. He doesn't want anybody to advise him and he can not be influenced by anybody especially his wife, who hardly knows his plan or what he may do next. He is a difficult man to live with.

(2). Corrosive Husband- He is abusive; hot tempered and a wife beater. He is not in charge of his temper. He is a no-joke, no-play, no-laughter and no-nonsense man. He shouts and barks at home. The house is a military camp; his room is a defence headquarters, while he is the garrison commander, lion of the family and commander in chief of family forces.

(3). Solo Husband- He stays in separate room away from his wife. He is a “single” married man. He prefers sharing his secret with friends; the only time he talks to his wife is when he needs food and sex.

He is self-centered; his common words are “I”, “me”, “mine” and “myself”. He is full of self-glorification, self-justification and stinginess.

(4). Semi-Husbands- They are not real husbands, they are men under their trouser but lesser than that in their duties at home. They are real men in bed and on the dining table; but when it gets to paying school fees they are nothing. It is their wives that pay the house rent, electricity bills, buy food and provide generally for the family. It is not that he is not working; it's just that he is a useless man that will not provide for his own family. While some are too lazy to work, others that have money spend their money outside to the detriment of peace in their homes. A semi-husband is a disgrace, Proverbs 24:27, I Tim 5:8.

(6). Supermarket Husbands- These are the kind of husbands that are unfaithful to their wives. They are everybody's husband. They spend lavishly on their girl friends, woman friends, prostitutes and concubines outside; while giving little or nothing to their household.

To men like this, anything in skirt is good for a bedmate. They pay huge amount of money on hotel bills. They are shameless to the extent that they visit brothels for prostitute or park their cars in the bush path to perform their ungodly act with immoral ladies. Some even go to the extent of impregnating their house-maids and sleeping with their wives' younger sisters, Proverbs 7:1-27

(7). Executive Husbands- These are the kind of men that live their lives in an executive way. They do not allow their wives to have any close relationship with them. They operate their rooms as if it is the general manager's office; no love, no romance and no intimacy.

If their wives want to enter their rooms, they have to knock and obtain permission before coming in. They do issue orders to their family members as if to the workers under them and inform their families about their plans as if addressing a press conference; where no journalist is allowed to ask any question.

Their wives can not easily talk to them, in fact; they have to send their children to them before they can get anything from them.

One thing that is common to most of them is that most of them are business executives hence, they use their office experience to the maximum at home expecting everybody at home to follow suit. They have little or no respect for their wives, if their business is not going on fine, then the whole family is in trouble. Many of them always want their wives to be full-time house wives so that they can have full control over them.

(8). Traditional Husbands- They see their wives as properties. They believe women are third class citizens, useful only in the kitchen and bedroom. To them, a woman is just a cook, a tool of pleasure (sex) and baby making machine.

They give no attention to their wives who they see as somebody that is a little bit above their house-maid. They believe that their younger ones living with them are to be served by their wives, while they are expected not to do anything at home.

Most of them are still using the style of their grand fathers for their marriages. They believe a woman must not enjoy sex; love must not be shown to them, they must be beaten if they misbehave, if she fails to give birth to a baby boy then she is a failure. If they give birth to children who behave poorly they belong to the wife, the one that behave excellently belong to the father.

(9). Baby Husbands- They are not under-aged men physically, but they are infant mentally. They know how to build a house but not how to make a home.

If you want to know baby husbands look for the following:

• He keeps malice with his wife

• He rejects food because he is angry

• He beats his wife

• He reports his wife to friends and family members

• He keeps a separate room from his wife.

• He embarrasses his wife publicly

• He calls his wife goat, animal, fool, etc.

• He loves his mother more than his wife

• May refuse to give house-keeping allowance because of a little misunderstanding

• Can never be influenced by his wife

• He is a contentious husband, he nags.

• Will never pray with his wife

• Always find it difficult to say “I am sorry”.

• Will never help his wife with the baby.

• He threatens his wives with polygamy or divorce

• He criticizes, condemns and compares his wife with other women

• He does not love his wife, if he does; he will never say it, or demonstrate it.

• He leaves the house without anybody knowing where he has gone to.

• He gives no room for romance and intimacy. All he wants is sex.

• Gives no room for foreplay before sex. He is just like a carpenter who has no emotion for the nail.

• He retaliates instead of rewarding

• Never does anything to improve his marriage. He will never read marriage books, attend seminar or go for counseling.

(10). Kingdom Husbands- They are extra-ordinary husbands; they are what God want them to be as husband. They know that their God is to be feared and worshipped, their wives are to be loved and their children are to be catered for. They are “real men”, men indeed; they are the SUNSHINE in the life of their wives and children.

- They are man of integrity: - They mean what they say; and say what they mean

- They do pray with and for their wives.

- They are faithful, loving and caring.

- They cherish and nourish their wives.

- They have hostering i.e. they do listen to the suggestion of their wives.

- They are good communicator.

- Apologize easily, forgive quickly.

- They lead their homes with wisdom

- They never retaliate, they rather reconcile.

- They do speak the truth in love.

- They provide for their family (1 Tim. 5:8)

- They stay in the same room with their wives.

- They “leave” their parent and leave to their wives.

- Their wives know how much they are earning.

- They are actively involved in child bearing, rearing, discipline and parenting.

- They have ultimate respect for their wives.

- They do support their wives in the kitchen.

- They are close to their wives, full of honour and they do play with their wives.

- They are skillful in the bedroom; meeting their wives bedroom need.

Kingdom husbands are not common but God can make you one of them, turning your home to a place to be.

Kingdom Husbands – Traits of an Uncommon Hubby

Kingdom husbands are common men with uncommon sense.
Are you a great husband?
Do you want to be one?
Do you want to be a husband your wife will adore, honor and hero-worship? Then all you just need to do is to develop the following traits of uncommon husbands:

1. God Fearing: The first trait of a great husband is the fear of the Lord. He fears the Lord enough to obey His words. He fears the God enough to care and provide for his wife. No husband can be a wonderful husband expects he is God fearing man.

2. Godly Character: A great husband is of a man with godly character. He is meek, gentle, caring, loving, forgiving, supportive, wise and cautious. He is not stingy but honest. He does not attend night clubs, smoke or practice adultery.

3. Love: He loves his wife with all his heart and is not ashamed to let anybody know. He expresses love to his wife at any given opportunity.

4. Respects and Honors: When you see a man that embarrasses his wife in the public, he is a total failure as a man of valor. A great husband respects and honors his wife and gives all glory to God.

5. Good Communication: A woman loves it when her husband is talking and listening passionately to her. A good husband is open to his wife. He speaks the truth is love and is always positive in his reactions to his wife.

6. Great Leader: He is never a boss but is a tender lover. He knows how to make people follow him without forcing them. He has vision, which he shares with his family. He influences the family and offers them good examples.

7. Diligent: A great husband is a worker; he is not lazy. He puts his hands to work and makes bread available to his family.

8. Romantic: He satisfies his Wife’s Bedroom Desires. A great husband is romantic. He knows how to make his wife enjoy him. He is tender, patient and careful with the wife in the bedroom. He knows that foreplay is a must if a woman must enjoy sex. Hence, he never rush the wife but brings her up before any sexual act.

9. He gives His Wife Peace: The wife of a great husband is always sad to see him travel because he is a man of peace with no space for fighting, bitter arguments, abuse, curse, shouting, malice, bitterness, resentment, bickering and hatred. A great husband has no time for all these. He is a source of joy to his darling wife.

10. He is Committed to Marriage: He never threatens his wife with beating, separation or divorce but is ready to give his marriage anything it takes to make it work. His wife is number one in his life after God. His wife is his thinking partner, friend, prayer partner, bed mate, and confidant!
--------------------------------

This is not meant to abuse anybody, but for you to check yourself and try to be a better husband and father, may God help you in Jesus name.

HOW TO PRAY EFFECTIVELY

Many people ask themselves why you have pray so much about something and the prayers are not answered. Here are some of the ways on how to pray effectively :

Pray responsibly. God won't do for us what we need to do for ourselves. When I was a student, I would sometimes pray furiously for God's help at examination time—especially when I wasn't adequately prepared! I managed to pass my exams, but not because of any "pray-instead-of-study" prayers!

Pray in harmony with God's will. The Bible says, "If we ask anything according to God's will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the request which we have asked from him."2 Our growth and maturity is one of God's high priorities. So prayers offered in harmony with this principle, and with all of God's will, will always be effective. Prayers outside His will are not. The key to all effective prayer is learning to pray the right prayer.

Pray with the right motive. As God's Word says, "You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures."3

Pray persistently. Not all prayers are answered quickly. I have prayed for some things for years before getting an answer. If our prayer is legitimate, we may need to be as persistent as Jacob, who once said to God, "I will not let you go until you have blessed me."4 Jesus Himself said, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."5 The principle is to keep on asking and seeking until we receive God's answers.

Pray specifically. Tell God what exaclty you are asking from him. A woman was asking God for a car, and she said that she pray even for a small suzuki car,and that was what she got.And after getting it, she saw how it was and wished that she could have prayed for a better car than that. Always be specific when praying, and know that, what you pray is what you will get.

Pray believing. Faith, s essential for effective prayer. As Jesus said, "Whatever you ask in prayer believing, you will receive," and "according to your faith will it be done to you."

Pray sincerely. "Do you want to be made well?" Jesus' asked the lame man at the pool of Bethesda. That seems like a foolish question but Jesus wanted to know if the man really meant business.
Being healed would require an entirely new approach to life. He would have to get a job and take care of himself instead of lie by the pool hoping that someone would help him in. If we want God to answer our prayers we have to want the answer enough to be willing to pay the price. If we want to grow in faith, love, patience, perseverance, and maturity, we need to realize that all of these are acquired through experience, often painful experience. As the Bible says, "Suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character." Sometimes we want the goal without the work to get there.

Pray in Jesus' name. Jesus said, "And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to [God] the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name and I will do it."9 Jesus is our intermediary to our Heavenly Father.

Finally, come to God on His terms. Effective prayer is dependent on our having a right relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ. When we are living in a right relationship with God and learn to pray according to His will [which is what will truly be best for us] we can be certain that God will answer. As Jesus put it, "If you stay in [right relationship with] me and obey my commands, you may ask any request you like, and it will be granted."

Prayer is a wonderful gift from God to His children. It is an incredible privilege to talk with our Creator and Heavenly Father. God can do exceedingly and abundantly above all that you can ever ask or think.

'Get in there and make it happen' Choosing to be positive!

We are living in a fast moving generation were things happen very fast in a bursting of a popcon! For that reason it is good to go with the pace so that you won't find yourself lost behind in the old season. The Bible tells us to make the most of every opportunity..(Ephesians 5:15-16, Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

My encouragement to you would simply be, this is such a season and an ideal opportunity to re-align focus and 'get in there and make it happen' whatever you have ever dreamt of going or becoming.
Here are three thoughts, on your move:

1. What happened yesterday doesn't have to happen again. The great thing about fresh starts is exactly that - they are fresh. Stop thinking about what could have been or regrets and start thinking upon what can happen in your tomorrow. The future months are untouched and desperate for your expression of life to be portrayed, like a canvas in front of an artist. These next few months could be the most fruitful that you have ever experienced.

2. See things from a positive perspective. You must never focus on what can go wrong. When I am driving a car, I don't spend my time focusing on the things that I want to avoid, I focus on where I want to go. And when the bumps come I pass them right away and go on with where I was driving to. It is many a person's failing when they focus on what they want to avoid; instead focus on the horizons and opportunities that are ahead of you.

3. Realise that you have a 'today'. One of the amazing things I find when talking to people is, most people are camped in one of two places - either their past or their future. Both are fundamentally a mistake. Our past, in reality has not got a hold on us. Our future is important but to live there is to daydream.
The reality is that we only have our today so we should embrace what scripture says when we're instructed to, 'make the most of every opportunity' (Colossians 4:5). Today is important. don't waste it because today builds tomorow whaich is the future.

In conclusion, it is my personal belief that we live in the most exciting generation that has ever existed as I said in the beggining, and our future is yet to be written. Every season has its highs and lows. My encouragement to you would be that, whatever season of life you maybe in, choose to move forward and know that the sun always rises in the morning and that God is on his throne. I would love it if you, as you, decide to enjoy the season and live expectant of what the coming months hold.

Have a great day!

SHUKURANI, Password ya kupokelea unachotarajia. !

Shalom!

Ubarikiwe!

Pastor Uche Agu ~~ From Double double to overflow!

Uche Agu is probably less known by his real name but when you mention Uche of Double Double fame, the gospel artiste based in South Africa; his name is like a wild fire; he is not just a gospel musician but a preacher of the gospel who delights in seeing souls saved for Jesus Christ through his musical shows. He was recently in Amsterdam and the Voice magazine couldn’t allow him pass bye without speaking to us for our reading audience. One on one with Pastor Uche ‘Double Double’ Agu.

TV: Can you introduce yourself to our readers?

Uche: My name is Uche, Pastor Uche ordained at Halleluiah Ministries International, I am a recording artiste and also a member of Joy Celebration in South Africa. I love the Lord and I love singing for the Lord.

TV: What is your other name?

Uche: Well, I am the first son of Assemblies of God parents and Pastors, my full names are Uchechukwu Godstime Agu. I was born in Nigeria in the city of Onitsha although my parents are from Imo State.

TV: You have been living in South Africa for how long?

Uche: For eight years now, I reside in Johannesburg, it has been an awesome experience, I love the people, the clulture, the warmth; one of the things that made me to fall in love with the country is their music. There depth of music and the love for music, the passion for music really drew me closer to the country.

TV: Did you start playing music in South Africa?

Uche: I have been doing music all my life, I have been singing, trying a lot of things and my mom informed me that I have been singing as a kid from the age of 4. I can remember back then when I used to sign at the Children’s choir, we were allowed once in a while to come and sign in the main church service, so music has always been part of my life for a long time.

TV: Have you also studied music?

Uche: (laughs) No, I have not studied music or have a degree in music but I have studied the basis at the Royal Bible church in Johannesburg, I have done vocal training, voice training, I learnt piano as an instrument, I didn’t go deep because then I started traveling and I couldn’t catch up, but I have the basic knowledge on music.

TV: Playing music as a gospel artiste, how is it compared to secular artistes? Is there a good reception for gospel music?

Uche: It depends on which part of Africa or the world you go to but generally gospel music is well received because the secular guys are more into media; they take advantage of the media and the technology available to sell their music while the gospel artistes especially in Africa are like on second level compared to the Americans or Europeans. But the gospel music in Africa is making impact among the people that are being raised up at this moment. God is rising a new generation of gospel artistes; you come to Holland, you hear of Elvis E in Amsterdam, you go to London, you hear of Aaron T. Aaron; you go to America, you hear a lot of gospel artistes so God is rising up; we are working hard, using what we have to reach our people and others. We know the future is bright and we can work together.

TV: Is this your first time in Amsterdam?

Uche: Yes, first time of coming inside Amsterdam, I always pass bye Amsterdam airport flying to other places but this is my first official trip to Amsterdam.

TV: How was your experience?

Uche: It was good, it is a lovely place, the city is good, and the places I visited are very nice, I also visited Almere, quite just like Johannesburg. The people I met here are very friendly, at least Elvis and his family were very friendly (Laughs). The people I met were friendly too.

TV: You had a concert in Amsterdam. Tell us about it?

Uche: As you read in this magazine, I was here last month and if you didn’t attend the show, you missed. I featured in that concert with Elvis E. Aaron T. Aaron, the Ghana Community Choir from Amsterdam, we chose some of the choirs that are resident in Amsterdam to feature in the concert, the performances were ballistic. You need to contact the organizers for your DVD copy to watch the show again. We were all on fire for Jesus, it was our first time in Amsterdam and we gave our best for the first edition of Africa Praise, next year I believe UNIQ records is going to announce a date for the concert very soon for the second edition.

TV: Your hit track, ‘Double Double’ makes the headline everywhere, do you have other songs?

Uche: I have other songs but the track Double Double is ever new when it is played, if you go to another part of the world, they are just catching up with Double Double; I have released three other songs on Joy Celebration label, after that people still talk about ‘Double Double’ so I think it is one of those songs that the life spam is timeless.

TV: It seen internality!

Uche: I tell you, I saw the song on Youtube being taught to kids in Brazil, on youtube it is over one million views and many are still viewing it. I have released several other songs but people are really hooked to that song.

TV: It is a great song but how profitable is it to you?

Uche: Well you see the thing is that the song was registered in South Africa which is a good breathing space for me and where they system is organized. The song was recorded there with Joy Celebration as the platform, the son is protected in that domain, obviously whatever happens in other African countries, I don’t have control over that. In South Africa, all my songs are registered and protected. In terms of making money, like my friend Elvis says, ‘you never say money is too much’. The money is coming in step by step, royalties also take time to come in so I thank God for where I am; I am not where I used to be before and I am moving forward with other African gospel artistes.

TV: What is the ultimate for you with gospel music?

Uche: This gospel music is an adventure, I cannot accomplish it alone, we are working together with my friends, Elvis E, Aaron T. Aaron, Tony in Canada, we have our contacts all over the world; we are trying to build this network, what we want to do is this; we want the world as a whole, not just the African communities but for instance, there must be a cross over; the Americans should be able to appreciate what we are doing, the Chinese, Japanese so this is the next level, to go into the market we have not reached for now; let the white people, the colored people, different kinds of people all over the world begin to enjoy our work. This is what the Americans have been able to do; they have made universal records. I was speaking to a record company, the focus and the direction now is global music; my next recording will be a global album whereby we feature artistes that I don’t want to mention their names now but with worldwide appeal. I am going to collaborate with some international artistes and when we release the music, it can reach the entire world.

TV: Is Uche married or still available?

Uche: I will be married very soon, marriage is not something to rush into, if you rush into it, you will rush out; your eyes have to be open to make sure that you make the right choice and you are able to connect.

TV: One of the objectives of the gospel music is to win souls for Christ but I sense that gospel music is becoming just like secular music – to dance and to enjoy yourself. What do you think?

Uche: Gospel music must be different from secular music, belief it or not if your gospel music is the same as secular music, then you must listen to what I am about to say. I am not saying that it must be different in the beats or rhythms, harmony but the power behind it must be different. The Apostle Paul said I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God onto salvation. The gospel music must carry power to touch and change lives, there must be something different about it. Secular music is just for you to play and dance, entertainment but the gospel music must be able to reach the spirit, it must be able to reach the soul; for instance if you are feeling down, you listen to gospel music, it should lift you up, it should develop your spirit man; it should bless you. It shouldn’t be only for entertainment but there must be a spiritual aspect of it.

TV: How do you make sure that your gospel music carries power?

Uche: You must be connected to the source of the power to receive the power. I see a lot of gospel artists, although no one is perfect, but your life style must correspond to what you are singing. You cannot say follow me, sing what I sing but don’t do what I do. Your life must correspond to what you and that is the difference between gospel music and secular music. I am an entertainer when I sing, dance, I bring fun but at the end of it, what happens? Is your sickness still there? Did something happen in your life? Does your heart bring glory to God? I ask myself these questions. Secular music directs people to money, life, and good times while gospel music should bring people closer to God.

TV: Thank you for your time

Uche: Thank you very much sir.

A Lion wanted to be a hedgehog!

The following story will give you a perfect understanding of how social approval effects someone's self esteem.

Once there was a lion living in a big forest along with his other lion friends. One day that lion decided to visit the place where the hedgehogs lived. Upon his arrival there he liked the place much and so he went to the leader of the hedgehogs and asked him if he can stay with them.
The leader told him, "I am sorry, you are much different than us, please go and cut your tail in order to look more like us".
So the lion went away and thought about it and then decided to cut his tail because he needed to be approved by them badly. The lion came back to the hedgehog's leader and asked him if he can stay with them and the leader replied "hmmm your looks are still much different ,please shave all of your hair in order to look more like us".

                                       A  Hedgehog

But the lion was in need of social approval so ....

The lion thought that this is too much but because he wanted their approval so much and because he was eager to be accepted by the hedgehogs he shaved his hair then went back to the  leader who told him "hmm, you still need to remove your very long nails in order to look more like us", the lion thought about it, then he did it for the sake of being approved.
After returning back the leader told him "am sorry but, seems that whatever changes you do to yourself, you can never look like us, maybe you was never meant to be a hedgehog. Now please leave.

The lion headed back home feeling very disappointed and upon arriving back to the place he found big surprise was waiting for him. The other lions didn't accept his new looks and told him that he is no longer a lion. "you lost your identity , you are no longer a lion" said one of the lions.
The lion went away feeling bad and lost. He sacrificed precious things for social approval yet he got nothing.

How the need for social approval impacts self esteem

The problem of that lion is that he exchanged his identity for social approval.
He sacrificed his true self to gain the approval of others.

The same story happens everyday but with lots of human beings who sacrifice their self esteem for social approval. They change the way they dress in order to appeal to others, they sacrifice what they like for what others like and the result is usually either one of a two things, either acceptance but zero self confidence or either rejection and a loss of their identity.
A person will never manage to become confidence before his subconscious mind accepts that he is worthy and this can never happen before his self worth comes from within. What striving for social approval does is that it allows others to control your self confidence while leaving you helpless.

It is good to seek approval from God rather than men. For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ(Galatians 1:10)

If you don't know your tittle, you do not know the authority you have! Usipojua nafasi yako au cheo chako, hutaweza kujua mamlaka uliyonayo.

If you don't know your tittle, you do not know the authority you have!

                                King of the jungle!

Mnyama Simba ambae wote tunamfahamu anaitwa 'King of the jungle' au mfalme wa mwitu, lakini tumwangalie huyu simba ana nini hadi kuitwa hivyo?
Simba sio mnyama mkubwa kuliko wote, wala sio mnyama mrefu kuliko wote, wala sio mnyama mjanja kuliko wote, wala sio mwenye mbio kuliko wote, wala sio mnyama mwenye nguvu kuliko wote.
Kila mnyama akimwona simba anakuja, anakimbia.

Mrithi anakua mrithi pale ambapo yule anayemrithisha hayupo.

Ila watumishi wote wa Mungu ni watoto wa Mungu.-Not all Children of God are servants of God, but all Servants of God are children of God-hii inatokana na kujua nafasi uliyonayo.

Tambua nafasi yako uweze kutumia mamlaka uliyo nayo!

Dr.Rick Warren

Dr.Rick Warren

Dr. Rick Warren is passionate about attacking what he calls the five “Global Goliaths” – spiritual emptiness, egocentric leadership, extreme poverty, pandemic disease, and illiteracy/poor education. His goal is a second Reformation by restoring responsibility in people, credibility in churches, and civility in culture. He is a pastor, global strategist, theologian, and philanthropist. He’s been often named "America's most influential spiritual leader" and “America’s Pastor.”

As a pastor, he founded Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., in 1980 with one family. Today, it is an evangelical congregation averaging 22,000 weekly attendees, a 120-acre campus, and has more than 300 community ministries to groups such as prisoners, CEOs, addicts, single parents, and those with HIV/AIDS. Recently, the church fed 42,000 homeless people – three meals a day – for 40 days.

He also leads the Purpose Driven Network of churches, a global coalition of congregations in 162 countries. More than 400,000 ministers and priests have been trained worldwide, and almost 157,000 church leaders subscribe to the Ministry ToolBox, his weekly newsletter.

                                                          Pastor. Rick Warren

His previous book, The Purpose Driven Church is listed in “100 Christian Books That Changed the 20th Century.” Forbes magazine called it "the best book on entrepreneurship, management, and leadership in print.”

As a global strategist, Dr. Warren advises leaders in the public, private, and faith sectors on leadership development, poverty, health, education, and faith in culture. He has been invited to speak at the United Nations, the World Economic Forum in Davos, the African Union, the Council on Foreign Relations, Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, TIME’s Global Health Summit, and numerous congresses around the world. TIME magazine named him one of “15 World Leaders Who Mattered Most in 2004” and in 2005 one of the “100 Most Influential People in the World.” Also, in 2005 U.S. News & World Report named him one of “America’s 25 Best Leaders.”

As a theologian, Dr. Warren has lectured at Oxford, Cambridge, the University of Judaism, the Evangelical Theological Society, and numerous seminaries and universities. His six books are known for explaining theology in understandable ways and have been translated into more than 50 languages. Dr. Warren says he teaches theology without using theological terms and telling people it is theology. His latest book, The Purpose Driven Life, has sold 25 million copies and is the best-selling hardback book in American history, according to Publisher’s Weekly.

As philanthropists, Rick and Kay Warren give away 90 percent of their income through three foundations: Acts of Mercy, which serves those infected and affected by AIDS; Equipping the Church, which trains church leaders in developing countries; and The Global PEACE Fund, which fights poverty, disease, and illiteracy.

Early life and education

Warren was born in San Jose, California, the son of Jimmy and Dot Warren. His father was a Baptist minister, his mother a high school librarian. He was raised in Ukiah, California, and graduated from Ukiah High School in 1972, where he founded the first Christian club on the school's campus, The Fishers of Men Club. His sister Chaundel is married to Saddleback pastor Tom Holladay. His brother Jim C. Warren died in 2007.

Warren received a Bachelor of Arts degree from California Baptist University in Riverside, California; a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (1979) in Fort Worth, Texas; and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California.

His Mentors

He considers Billy Graham, Peter Drucker and his own father to be among his mentors.

Due to the success of his book sales, in 2005 Warren returned his 25 years of salary to the church and discontinued taking a salary. He says he and his wife became "reverse tithers", giving away 90% of their income and living off 10%.[11

Marriage

Warren has been married to Elizabeth K. Warren (Kay) for 32 years in 2011. They have three adult children (Amy, Josh, and Matthew) and four grandchildren.

Career

Warren says he was called to full-time ministry when he was a 19-year-old student at California Baptist University. In November 1973, he and a friend skipped classes and drove 350 miles to hear W.A. Criswell preach at the Jack Tar Hotel, in San Francisco. Warren waited afterwards to shake hands with Criswell who focused on Warren stating "I feel led to lay hands on you and pray for you!"

During his time at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Warren worked at the Texas Ranch for Christ, a ministry facility of Billie Hanks, Jr., where he began writing books. He co-wrote two books, The Victory Scripture Memory Series and the Twelve Dynamic Bible Study Methods for Laity, with Billi Hanks, Jr. and Wayne Watts.

Saddleback Church

In April 1980 Warren held Saddleback Church's first public service on Easter Sunday at the Laguna Hills High School Theater with 200 people in attendance. Warren's church growth methods led to rapid expansion, with the church using nearly 80 different facilities in its 28-year history.
                                                        Saddleback Church.

Saddleback did not build its first permanent building until it had 10,000 weekly attenders. When the current Lake Forest campus was purchased in the early 1990s, a 2,300-seat plastic tent was used for worship services for several years, with four services each weekend. In 1995 the current Worship Center was completed, with a seating capacity of 3,500. A multi-million dollar children's ministry building and a staff office building were completed over the next few years. In June 2008, a $20 million student ministry facility called the "Refinery" was completed, housing the "Wildside" middle school and "HSM" high school ministries, consisting of 1,500 students. Saddleback Church averages nearly 20,000 people in attendance each week, and is currently the eighth-largest church in the United States.

Warren has been invited to speak at national and international forums, including the United Nations, the World Economic Forum in Davos, the African Union, the Council on Foreign Relations, Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, TED, and Time’s Global Health Summit. He was an elected member of the Council on Foreign Relations between 2005 and 2006, and  was named one of "America's Top 25 Leaders" in the October 31, 2005, issue of U.S. News and World Report.

In August 2008, Warren drew greater national attention by hosting the Civil Forum on the Presidency that featured senators John McCain and Barack Obama at Saddleback Church. Warren said the goal of the forum was to “restore civility in our civil discourse.” The forum marked McCain and Obama's first joint appearance as the presumptive Republican and Democratic presidential nominees, and was broadcast live on national television. During the two-hour event, each candidate took the stage separately for about an hour to respond to Warren’s questions about faith and moral issues including abortion and human rights.

In January 2009, Warren and the Readers Digest Association partnered in the launch of the Purpose Driven Connection, a quarterly publication sold as part of a bundle of multimedia products. In November 2009, the partners announced that the magazine had not drawn enough paying members and would cease after publication of the fourth issue that month.

Purpose Driven

Purpose Driven comes from the teaching of Warren, and came into use as a paradigm taught to pastors and other Christian leaders worldwide to help them be more effective in leading their churches. The teaching is embodied in Warren’s best-selling book, The Purpose Driven Church, first published in 1995. Over 400,000 pastors and church leaders from around the world have attended a seminar or conference led by Warren and other pastors who seek to be more effective in fulfilling the Biblical Great Commission and Great Commandment. Purpose Driven refers to these pastors' attempts to balance the five "purposes"; worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry, and evangelism in their churches.

Christian leaders in 162 countries have used materials which stem from this movement. Warren says his organizations have trained 400,000 pastors worldwide. Some 189,000 church leaders subscribe to Ministry Toolbox, the weekly newsletter.

Others express concern over what is described as the divisive nature of Warren's techniques. Wall Street Journal writer Suzanne Sataline cited examples of congregations who have split over the growth strategies and congregations that have expelled members who fought changes. She wrote, "Warren acknowledges that splits occur in congregations that adopt his ideas, though he says he opposes efforts to expel church members."
