The Curse of Infiriority!
In the battle between the lion and
the shark the terrain will determine the outcome. This means that if the shark
gets the lion in water, the lion will be a victim not because it is weak but
because it is in the wrong terrain. Similarly if the lion should get the shark
on dry land the shark will become a victim not because it is weak but because it
is in the wrong terrain. No individual was born to be weak. People however take
up an appearance of weakness when they are in the wrong terrain. As good a
player as Didier Drogba is if you put him in the goal post to become the keeper,
he will most probably appear to be weak even though it is the same game and the
same sport. Similarly If you put him on the basketball court, he will not shine
because that is not his terrain. He is not weak. His apparent weakness under
these conditions not inherent in him. It is terrain induced.
One of the biggest problems facing a lot of people today is the problem of identity. This problem expresses itself at individual levels at corporate levels and at national levels. No society can rise to a position of dominance by being a replica of another. Originality is one of the trademarks of greatness. Your greatness lies in your originality. Great Nations like Singapore rose to greatness by being authentic Singaporeans and not British Singaporeans. The Japanese and the Chinese also rose to their position by being authentic Japanese and Chinese and not French or American Japanese or Chinese. Think of great artists like Mozart or Handel. They became great through their originality. Some people read the map but remember that some people drew the map. In your thinking are you a map reader or a map drawer? Are you an original or a clone? Are you authentic or counterfeit?
Why is it very important to become authentic in our thinking? Until we have confidence in our ability to think up things that can change our world, we will continue to conform to whatever the world gives us and we will continue to seek approval. You need no approval to be great. The world is an open platform calling out to people everywhere to reach out and take the greatness that is theirs but unfortunately too many people are seeking for approval. That is where the difference lies – the approval seekers and the takers. You need no approval to develop your mind. You need no approval to think big. You need no approval to dream. You need no approval to wake up and achieve your dream. You need to approval to be different. Unfortunately a lot of people are more inclined to conform than to stand out. Conformity is a disease that makes you feel unworthy unless you look like someone else. Inferiority is a disease that causes you to measure yourself against others. It causes you to measure your looks against the looks of others. It causes you to look down on yourself by default. Inferiority is what causes people to believe that the grass is greener on the other side and refuse to plant their own grass. Inferiority causes the horse to see the zebra and wish for stripes. Inferiority causes the zebra to see the donkey and wish for someone to trust it with luggage on its back. Inferiority causes the donkey to see the horse and want to have a saddle and reins. Inferiority causes the light skinned person to want to tan and causes the dark skinned to want to tone. Inferiority causes the male to want to be female and the female to be male. Inferiority causes the African American to want to be African and causes the African to want to be African American. Inferiority is what causes you to despise your terrain and esteem the terrain of another.
Remember my opening statement that in the battle between the lion and the shark the terrain determines the outcome? Well that is the reason for the seeming weakness of so many people. They have despised their terrain and esteemed the terrain of another and as they such they take on an appearance of weakness. The first step in your journey to a great and fulfilled life is to be authentic. Have confidence in your thoughts. Have confidence in yourself. Have confidence in your ability to rise from your mistakes. Have confidence to define how you want to be defined by others. Remember that if you do not define how you want people to define you then you cannot fault anyone for defining you the way they want to define you. Have confidence to live your life and not the life of another. You were made an original, don’t die a photocopy.

Yesterday is history and tomorrow is merely a figment of your imagination. So if you think about it, today is the only day you’re truly alive. Here’s how to make it a good one:
- Get started a few minutes early and start with God.
- Work on something that’s meaningful to you.
- Complete an important piece of unfinished business.
- Spend time with positive, friendly people.
- Do something nice for someone else.
- Be present. Focus on where you are, what you’re doing and who you’re with right now.
- Do one thing at a time.
- Listen to your self-talk. When you hear negative thoughts, think about the positive side of things.
- Smile, even when there’s no pressing reason to do so.
- Unplug. Find time to socialise with others.
- Go somewhere new. See something new. Meet someone new.
- Do something that makes you laugh.
- Challenge your mind.
- Challenge your body. Exercise for 30 minutes.
- Let someone help you.
- Clear a little clutter by getting rid of something you don’t need.
- Be honest with yourself and those around you.
- Don’t compare yourself to others. Instead, let them inspire you.
- Spend a few minutes alone in silence, just meditating.
- Focus on solutions.
- Keep an open mind to new ideas and information.
- Handle important two-minute tasks immediately.
- Stay out of other people’s drama. And don’t needlessly create your own.
- Say, “Please,” “Thank you,” “I’m sorry” and “I love you,” when you should.
- Don’t try to please everyone. Just do what you know is right.
- Eat a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner.
- Savor the natural joy of simple pleasure.
- Do what is right always.
- Focus on all the things you already have, think about them and appreciate them.
- Get to sleep a little earlier tonight so you’re well rested for tomorrow.
